Becoming A Christian

A Christian is a person who has accepted Christ as Savior and Lord, and seeks to follow him in the service of God and others.

The Bible teaches that all of us, because of our sins, are eternally separated from God, who is perfect and holy. Even though we are sinful, God still loves us. Since God is perfectly just, sin must be punished, and for us it results in death. Because of God’s love for us, he sent his Son Jesus into the world. Jesus, who had no sin in his own life, died on the cross in our place and paid the required price for our sins. After he was buried, he rose from the dead and lives today.

We each have an invitation to accept or reject God’s gift of forgiveness through the sacrifice of Jesus for ourselves. We are taught that those who receive Jesus are forgiven, re-born, called to sacrificial service in unity with other believers, and have eternal life.

God’s Holy Spirit is available to believers for comfort, encouragement, and for the power required to live the Christian life.

You can become a Christian by doing the following things:
  • Admit (confess) to God that you are a sinner and want to change your life
  • Ask God to forgive you of your sins
  • Ask his Son Jesus to be your Lord and Savior, and to come into your heart
  • Thank God for saving you, forgiving you, and giving you the gift of eternal life
  • Seek out a community of believers for worship, study, growth and service
  • Pray to God daily for strength, guidance and joy
  • Read and study the Bible
  • Pray for the Holy Spirit of God to fill you
  • Identify the gifts God has given you, and begin the adventure of serving God and others
