The Great I AM is Still Great!
Greetings, beloved! I pray all is well with you. Last night we had a very special Ash Wednesday service, and we are now officially in the Lenten Season. This special time of the year, we pause to reflect on the life and death of Jesus, and to celebrate His resurrection. Thanks to all who participated and attended!
For the last few weeks, I have had a number of conversations with brothers and sisters deeply concerned about the state of affairs in our nation. Some of what is been presented by the media portrays a picture of chaos and confusion. Many find themselves on the verge of hopelessness. I have said it a few times from the pulpit. At times like these, the world pays careful attention to how the Church reacts. In other words, those around you that may not believe in Jesus are looking to you to see how you respond to what we are witnessing. While there may be a number of possible responses to what we are experiencing, I would like to suggest the following: the Church is called to pray, trust and obey.
During one of the darkest times in Israel’s history—their enslavement in Egypt—the great I AM heard their cry and intervened mightily. As God is instructing Moses to present himself to Pharaoh, Moses has a question for God. In Exodus, we read, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?” God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” (Exodus 3:13-14) You have read the rest of the story. God delivered His people to the glory of His name!
The good news is that that same God is our great I AM, and He’s more than able to deliver, to guide, to steer in the right direction. The question is, will we—The Church—cry out in prayer to the great I AM? I gently invite you to consider these words. From now through Easter, set aside time every day to pray for I AM’s intervention in our Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and to the ends of the earth.
Our Lenten series is titled Perspective. Join us on Sunday. The great I AM is still great. Blessings to you and yours!
